Today, we began class with Friday Forum presentations. Then, we finished our reading of Act I in The Crucible. After lunch, students took their vocabulary unit two quiz and were introduced to their unit three words.

Today, students went to the Writing Lab to complete their assignments. Please see instructions for assignment completion below.
Today, students were given class time to ask questions about and workshop their "Miller's Commentary" analysis questions and SOAPStone/SMELL organizers. Then, the class completed their peer norming of their rhetorical analysis essays. We then reviewed elements of an effective argument essays and discussed sample argument essay outlines. We ended class by previewing the requirements for the research proposal, which is due on Friday. Please see the online research packet for instructions and a sample template.

Today, the class continued reading Act I of the Crucible and working on the comprehension study guide questions/character charts. Students were also encouraged to fill in the Fallacy Finder organizers, during the reading. Students also worked with partners to complete Miller's Commentary and Reverend Hale Analysis.

Then, the class read background information, regarding the context and exigence surrounding Arthur Miller's writing of The Crucible. Students took notes and answered guided reading analysis questions, based on today's reading.

Today, the class was given a few minutes to review for their vocabulary quiz. Then, students traveled to the Learning Commons to take their online vocabulary quiz. After the quiz, students were given the option to either compose their topic vetting blog post or read and annotate chapter 7 of Thank You for Arguing.

Today, we began class with a PowerPoint review and notes on the AP Language Rhetorical Analysis FRQ. Then, the class read and discussed exemplars from CollegeBoard. After luncch, students engaged in a peer-norming activity, in which they performed table readings and scorings of each others' essays. See Mrs. Crandall for documents and details.

Today, students were given 10 minutes, at the beginning of class, to finish defining the fallacies on their Fallacy Finder organizers. Then, the class viewed excerpts from Monty Python and the Holy Grail and The Simpsons and filled out their Fallacy Finder organizers. Then, the class read Jonathan Edward's "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" on page 87 of the Prentice Hall textbook, and students worked with partners and in small groups on the "Heinrichs Meets Edwards" analysis questions.
