After the quiz, the class continued reading and discussing Act I of The Crucible. Today, students began class with an EOC Question of the Day. Then, the class reviewed parts of speech, in relation to completing their Sadlier unit one vocabulary. Students then worked independently to complete the guided reading and Cornell notes assignment, as an introduction to their upcoming reading of The Crucible.

Today, students began class with an EOC warm-up, from USA TestPrep (see below). Then, students viewed The History Channel's In search of History: The Salem Witch Trials and completed the accompanying viewing guide. Next, students read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," "The Trial of Martha Carrier," and "The Lessons of Salem" (SpringBoard pgs. 110-115) and answered questions 1-15, associated with the reading. Lastly, students were assigned their unit one vocabulary exercises, which are due on Thursday 8/16.

Today, students used their Socratic Seminar charts to engage in a Socratic Seminar group discussion assignment. Students then came up with a thesis statement, answering the question: "What does it mean to be an American?" Then, students continued working on the Native American Annotation assignment, rereading "Kill the Indian, and Save the Man" and working on steps 1-4. Students will complete these steps for homework, if they do not complete them in class.
Students continued working on their Native American Assimilation close-reading and annotation assignment. Today, they completed steps 1-3 of "The Cutting of my Long Hair." Then, students were given time to work on tonight's homework.
Homework: Read”Growing Up Asian in America” essay by Kesaya E. Noda (SpringBoard pg. 37). Answer “Key Idea and Details” and “Craft and Structure” questions 1-5 and “Check Your Understanding” (pgs. 40-41). Add notes to socratic seminar preparation chart. Read “Let America Be America Again” poem by Langston Hughes,”(SpringBoard pg. 42), and answer the “Check Your Understanding” questions (pg. 45). Reminders:
