Today, we began class with an introduction to the Romantic era (the Gothics and the Fireside Poets). Students viewed a PowerPoint and took Cornell notes. We discussed the term "romantic" in the context of American literature. Then, we discussed the characteristics of the "New American Hero," and students made contemporary connections to these characteristics.

Vocabulary Units 1-3 TestReminders:
Today, we began viewing and discussing The Great Debaters. We will be having in-depth discussions, throughout the semester, pertaining to many of the motifs in this film (i.e. rhetoric, blacklisting, Romanticism, Modernism, etc.). Students will use their The Great Debaters Viewing Guide to spark in-class discussion and bridge various topics, throughout the remainder of the course.

Today, the class was given the period to work on their USA TestPrep Red Dot exercises and/or vocabulary units 1-3 review exercises, in the Writing Lab.
