Today, we began class by assigning rolls for tomorrow's dramatic reading of Act III of The Crucible. Then, the class viewed PBS Secrets of the Dead: Witches' Curse, which introduced a scientific theory relating to the cause of the Salem Witch Trials, and completed the accompanying viewing guide. Students were given the remainder of the class period working on their study guides and character trackers for Act II of The Crucible. Reminders:

Today's Magic Lens Sentence: Other squirrels collected pinecones, but Sybil dreamed of bigger things. Then, the class engaged in a discussion about inclement weather expectations. Students are to check the blog for instructions on inclement weather assignments. Then, students were issued their own copies of The Crucible, which they will turn in at the end of the unit. During this time, students worked on their CEI paragraphs for their "Preparing to Read The Crucible" readings (questions 1-15). Then, the class began reading and discussing Act I of The Crucible, and students began working in their Act I study guides and their character trackers. Homework:

Today's Magic Lens Sentence: Sybil Squirrel, in her youth, was odd. Then, we discussed the Cornell notes structure and requirements. Then, students worked on their Introduction to The Crucible Guided Reading & Cornell Notes Assignment for the remainder of the class period. Reminders:
Today, students began class with a five-minute review of their unit one vocabulary words. Then, students took their unit one vocabulary quiz. After the quiz, students took Magic Lens unit one grammar notes, based on the Magic Lens PowerPoint and notes sheet. Then, students previewed their unit two vocabulary terms and worked on their unit two vocabulary exercises.

Today, students began class with a discussion of the Colonial era and the Salem Witch Trials. Then, students viewed History Channel's In Search of History: The Salem Witch Trials and completed a viewing guide. Then, the class engaged in a game of "SLAP" to review for tomorrow's vocabulary quiz. Reminders:
Today, students began class by reviewing their vocabulary unit one vocabulary words, in preparation for Thursday's quiz. Then, the class read an excerpt from "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," by Jonathan Edwards (SB pg. 110). The class discussed the proper CEI paragraph format and practiced writing CEI paragraphs in response to questions 1-4 on page 111. Homework:
