Today, we began class by discussing the logical fallacies found in McCarthy's speech, "Enemies from Within," and students received their "Fallacy Finder" organizer, which they will use to track logical fallacies through our study of Arthur Miller's The Crucible and The Salem Witch Trials. Then, students viewed History Channel's Secrets of the Dead: The Salem Witch Trials. After lunch, the class previewed the research paper requirements, and students began brainstorming topics, using the "Finding a Topic for the Researched Argument Paper" handout.

Today, we began class by reading, annotating, and discussing chapter 14 of Thank You for Arguing. We discussed logical fallacies, and students were given an additional handout, with a list of defined logical fallacies, to review. Then, the class revisited McCarthy's "Enemies from Within" speech, working with partners to identify logical fallacies within the speech. At the end of class, we previewed our unit one vocabulary terms, and students were assigned their first set of vocabulary exercises.

Today, the class began by completing their rhetorical analysis of Johnson's denial letter. Then, we began reading, annotating, and discussing chapter 9 of Thank You for Arguing. Students were also introduced to McCarthy's "Enemies from Within." Students are to read this text, complete the accompanying analysis questions, and be ready to discuss the material by the beginning of class tomorrow.

Today's Blog PostToday, students began class by taking the required GA Student Health Survey. Then, the class was given 40 minutes to complete their AP Language Argument FRQ Benchmark. Students were given the remainder of the class period to read and annotate chapters 3-4 of Thank You for Arguing.

Today, the class began with a quiz over Unit One Enduring Understandings and chapter two of Thank You for Arguing. Then, the class previewed the AP Language Rhetorical Analysis FRQ Rubric (13 Word Analysis). The class was given 20 minutes to begin writing their rhetorical analysis. They will be given another 20 minutes to complete the rhetorical analysis on Wednesday.

Today, students were given 60 minutes to complete section one (multiple choice) of the AP Language and Composition benchmark exam. Then, the class was introduced to their Friday Forum Presentation assignment. Please see the reminders below, for upcoming assignment and deadlines.

Today, we began class by reading chapter one in the Writing America textbook. The class read pages 3-6, as a whole group. Then, the class read and took notes on pages 7-23 independently. Students were instructed to analyze the images on pages 10-11, as well as those in figures 1.8 and 1.9 on page 13. Students were also instructed to answer questions 1-3 on page 14. After lunch, the class engaged in a discussion about visual rhetoric, based on the linked PowerPoint.

Today, students worked with partners to compose a script, based on a "Try This" exercise in chapter one. Then, the class was introduced to the Unit One Enduring Understandings Terms and videos, one which they must take notes (at home). Next, the class viewed and took notes on Carol Dweck's TedTalk, "The Power of Believing that You can Improve." Students will use their notes to compose tonight's blog post and comment on those of their peers. Reminders:
