Today, we began class with a brief review of visual rhetoric. Then, students continued working on the visual analysis organizer, and watching The Crucible. Students wrote a brief constructed response, based on the following prompt.
Constructed Response Prompt: Write a constructed response: Compare the characterization and tone of The Crucible in the original play and the 1996 film adaptation. Defend or challenge the following claim: Nicholas Hytner’s 1996 film adaptation of The Crucible effectively conveys the themes established in Arthur Miller’s play. If you agree with the claim, identify one or more themes, and provide specific evidence to show how Hytner’s directorial choices portray the theme(s). If you disagree, explain why, also using specific evidence. Reminders:
Today, we began class with a brief discussion of visual rhetoric. Then, students students considered the visual rhetoric in their printed still from The Crucible, using the visual analysis organizer. Then, students began watching The Crucible and took notes on the visual rhetoric of the film.

Today, students engaged in the Multiple Choice Monday 2017 PSAT Review. Then, the class continued the Friday Forum presentations from last week. For the remainder of class, students completed the following assignment in their Writing America textbooks.
Homework: Find a still photo from The Crucible film (1996) and print IN COLOR. If you cannot print in color, print in black and white, and take a photo of the still photo in color. Make sure you can access it without service. Regardless, you must bring a printed photo, even if you plan to use your phone to see the full-color version. Reminders:

We began class with a quiz over chapters 14-18 of Thank You for Arguing. Then, students presented their Friday Forum presentations, which we will continue on Monday.

Today, students took their vocabulary unit 4 quiz. Then, they were give class time to work on their Benjamin Franklin Synthesis Group Poster Contest assignment.
