At the beginning of class, students were given 5 minutes to review for their grammar and vocabulary quiz. Then, the students took their quiz. After the quiz, the class engaged in independent reading until all student had completed the quiz. When all students completed the quiz, the class viewed a History Channel documentary, In Search of History: The Salem Witch Trials, and completed the accompanying viewing guide.
Reminders:
Today, we began class with a review of narrative conventions. Then, the class was given ten minutes to work on their narrative maps before engaging in crafting their timed narratives. After students completed their narratives, they were given the remainder of the class period to work on their grammar exercises (prepositions, conjunctions, & interjections).
Reminders:
Today, we began class with a grammar bell ringer (prepositions, conjunctions, interjections). Then, the class read Zitkala-sa's "The Cutting of My Long Hair" and wrote an accompanying CEI response. After that, the class reviewed elements of a good narrative, and students used the 13-Word activity to analyze the American Literature Narrative Rubric (adapted from the Georgia Milestones EOC rubric).
Reminders:
Today, we began class by previewing the Native American Boarding Schools KWL organizer. Then, the class was given time to fill in the "K" and "W" portions of the organizer. The class viewed the PBS documentary, Unspoken: Native American Boarding Schools and a clip from Into the West, completing the KWL as they watched. We ended class with a discussion of what students learned by viewing these videos.
