Today, we began class with a brief review of visual rhetoric. Then, students continued working on the visual analysis organizer, and watching The Crucible. Students wrote a brief constructed response, based on the following prompt.

Write a constructed response: Compare the characterization and tone of The Crucible in the original play and the 1996 film adaptation. Defend or challenge the following claim: Nicholas Hytner’s 1996 film adaptation of The Crucible effectively conveys the themes established in Arthur Miller’s play. If you agree with the claim, identify one or more themes, and provide specific evidence to show how Hytner’s directorial choices portray the theme(s). If you disagree, explain why, also using specific evidence.
