During today's session, the class began with a discussion of yesterday's Into the West constructed response. Then, the class began working on step one of the “Kill the Indian and Save the Man” portion of the Native American Assimilation assignment, which Mrs. Crandall modeled before students were given class time to complete this portion of the assignment independently. Students will not submit this portion of the assignment for grading until all sections of the assignment is completed. Please reference the Honors American Literature Calendar for future deadlines.

Today, class began with a discussion of the term "assimilation." Then, the class was introduced the Native American Assimilation Annotation Assignment. The class read Zatkala-sa's "The Cutting of My Long Hair," and complete steps 1-3, associated with this text, of the Native American Assimilation Annotation Assignment. The, the class viewed a clip from Into the West and prepared for their upcoming CTLS constructed response assignment. Reminders:
During today's session, students began class by sharing their six-word memoirs. Then, the class was introduced to their American Dream TedTalk Part II assignment (in CTLS assignments). Then, the class spent the remainder of the period working on their American Dream Vision Board assignment.

During today's session, the class completed their “What Does America Mean to You?” activity. Then, the class engaged in a “Nearpod Interactive Syllabus.” Whatever students do not complete in class, they may complete for homework. After completing the “Nearpod Interactive Syllabus” assignment, please complete the student and parent agreement forms (located on the blog).
Homework:
During today's digital sessions, the class previewed the course syllabus and expectations, which can be found on the classroom blog. Then, the class engaged in the “What Does America Mean to You?” assignment. Next, students were assigned the “Six-Word Memoir,” which they will begin presenting on Monday, 1/7/2021. The course closed with a discussion of the independent reading expectation for the course.
