During today's session, the class was given the period to complete their first USA Test Prep full practice test. This test is used to provide students with data and targeted practice to help them excel on the Georgia Milestones American Literature End-of-Course Assessment. If students completed this assessment early, they were given time to work on their SpringBoard analysis questions for “The Trial of Martha Carrier” and “The Lessons of Salem” which are due on Monday.

During today's session, the class began with a New Fiction Friday sample presentation. Then, the class was assigned the reading of “The Trial of Martha Carrier” (SB pgs. 188-192) and “The Lessons of Salem” (pgs. 199-205). For “The Trial of Martha Carrier” reading, students are to annotate and label sentence types per the “Grammar and Usage” box on pg. 189 and answer questions 10-16 on pgs. 191-192. Students are to answer these questions, using the two different sentence types from the “Grammar and Usage” box, and label the sentence type of the side. For “The Lessons of Salem,” students are to choose 4 vocabulary terms to complete in the graphic organizer on page 199. Students are to annotate the text using the “As You Read” strategies on pg. 200 and answer questions 2-8, using and labeling the different sentence types in the “Grammar and Usage” box on pg. 189.
Reminders:
During today's session, began class by viewing a sample New Fiction Friday presentation. Then, we finished viewing History Channel's In Search of History: The Salem Witch Trials and completed the accompanying viewing guide. Then, as a class, we read an excerpt from “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” by Jonathan Edwards, annotating for rhetorical devices and instances of imagery to help them complete the bonus visual representation and the assigned constructed response.

During today's session, we began class by practicing/modeling the New Fiction Friday assignment with the original short story “Chapeau.” Then, the class was introduced to the Colonial Era Unit, and students watch History Channel's In Search of History: The Salem Witch Trials and completed the accompanying viewing guide.
