Today, the class viewed a History Channel documentary, In Search of History: The Salem Witch Trials, and completed a viewing guide, in preparation for our upcoming reading of The Crucible. Then, the class took notes on author Arthur Miller's background and completed an analysis reading guide for Miller's introductory background information and stage directions, leading to the dialogue in Act I of The Crucible.

American Dream Synthesis Essay Today, we opened class with a short review of our vocabulary terms. Then, the class took their unit one vocabulary quiz. After that, we completed our "Tips for Writing and Outstanding Essay" and notes. Then, we unpacked the rubric for tomorrow's in-class synthesis essay.

Today, we continued taking notes on Tips for Writing an Outstanding Essay. Then, the class engaged in a slap vocabulary review game for tomorrow's upcoming vocabulary quiz.

Today, we began class with a discussion of "Kill the Indian, and Save the Man." Then, the class completed steps two and three of the Native American Assimilation Annotation Assignment. We wrapped up class by reading "Growing Up Asian in America" (SpringBoard pg. 37), and students were given the remainder of the class period to complete their Socratic Seminar chart organizer for this text.

Today, the class began with a discussion of last night's reading, "The Cutting of My Long Hair." Then, the class began reading "Kill the Indian, and Save the Man," and they completed step one of the Native American Assimilation Annotation Assignment for this reading.

Today, students presented their American Dream vision boards and turned in their reflection paragraphs. Then, the class previewed Sadlier unit one vocabulary, which is due on Thursday, 8/15. Students were advised to color-code the terms by part of speech, which is a time-saving strategy. At the end of class, the teacher introduced the Native American Assimilation Annotation Assignment, and students were given class time to complete steps 1-3 in "The Cutting of My Long Hair" portion only. 3rd Period: roasted salsa 11 4th Period: alert apple 72 Today, we began class with a readings of the poems, "I Hear America Singing" and "I, Too, Sing America" (Springboard pgs. 16-17). The class was introduced to the American Dream Socratic Seminar Preparation Chart, and we filled out the first two rows together. Then, the students read "America and I" (SB pg. 19) in small groups and completed the third row of the Socratic Seminar Preparation Chart.
