Today, we began class with a discussion of different regional/cultural customs and colloquialisms. Then, we discussed last night's homework, and the juxtaposition between the poems of Whitman and Hughes, in regards to the American Dream. Then, in groups, students read "America and I" (SB pg. 19) and filled in their American Dream Socratic Seminar Notes Chart. Students then began their Native American Assimilation Assignment, reading, annotating, and analyzing "The Cutting of My Long Hair" and "Kill the Indian, and Save the Man."
